What is UBL Peppol and why must it be validated?
The Universal Business Language (UBL) format, structured according to the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 profile, is the mandatory European standard for exchanging structured e-invoices between B2B businesses. Any file that does not meet technical specifications is automatically rejected by Peppol Access Points and accounting software.
The 4 key checks performed by this validator
Checks well-formed XML syntax and verifies root element presence: <Invoice> or <CreditNote>.
Validates the CustomizationID and electronic address endpoint formats (such as 0208 for Belgian BCE numbers or 0009 for French SIRET).
Strictly verifies totals: the declared total with VAT must equal the sum of line net amounts plus total tax amount.
Checks tax category codes per invoice line and validates mandatory legal reason codes in case of tax exemption or reverse charge.
